Senri Ooe

Born in 1960, Senri Oe has been active and influential in Japanese music scene as lyricist, composer, and arranger ever since he debuted in 1983. He extended his talent in TV and Film industry, and was flourished as an actor and a television host as well. In 2008, he decided to pause his 25 year-long career in popular music for pursuing jazz, and studied with Junior Mance, Aaron Goldberg, and Toru Dodo. He is known as a regular pianist for Morning Musuko, a 17-piece big band specializing in Japanese popular music (J-pop) committed in cross-cultural communications and understanding between Japan and the rest of the world through their own interpretation of J-pop. The band successfully finished their 1st East Coast tour in Spring of 2011 appeared in PhilaMOCA, Washington DC Cherry Blossom Festival, Brooklyn Botanic Garden Cherry Blossom Festival, and Japan Day at Central Park. Additionally he leads his own group, and appears in jazz venues in both In Japan and New York metropolitan area. The venues he has performed include Blue Note Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka; Motion Blue Yokohama; Sweet Basil Tokyo; NB Lounge at the Lombardy Hotel, Bitter End, Bowery Ballroom, Gershwin Hotel, Tenri Cultural Institute, and Dixon Place. He is currently on regular roster at Tomijazz New York featured monthly. His monthly column in Japanese free paper, “Senri Oe’s New York Music Life” started in May 2010 is well-received among Japanese readers not just in New York local, but also the readers in overseas. In February 2012, Senri established his own record label called “PND Records and Music Publishing.”
