Saburo Kitajima
One of the most renowned “Enka” singers of Japan who has sang enka for 50 years. He has numerous hit songs including his “Women” conceptual series songs beginning with the song “Hakodate no Onna”, and his “Ninkyou” series songs such as “Kyoudai Jingi”.
Debuted from Nippon Columbia with the song “Bungacha Bushi” in June 1962. Won the “4th Nippon Record Taishou Rookie of the Year Award” with the song “Namida Bune de” in December 1962. In December 1986, Kitajima won the “28th Nippon Record Taisho Best Singer Award” with the song “Kita no Gyojou”.
In August 1991, received the “Hokkaido Prefectural Honor Award” at his hometown. In August 1999, received the “Hakodate City Honor Award”.
His long activity as stage actor and TV actor has acquired him positive acclaims as an actor also. He has also been active as an international performer, and has made great dedication in international relations.
