DJ Kazu featured as anime song DJ in Indonesia’s largest anime festival
J-pop specialist DJ Kazu, known for his mix CD series “J-Anison Kami Kyoku Matsuri,” which has sold over 130,000 records, performed at Anime Festival Asia Indonesia 2013, held in Jakarta, Indonesia for the two days of September 7th and 8th, 2013.
Anime Festival Asia, which has been held in Singapore since 2008, is Southeast Asia’s largest Japanese pop culture event. It was also held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia in 2012, and this year it was held in Indonesia twice. DJ Kazu appeared on the 7th in the opening act on the main stage, where live performances were held in the evening. He also DJed at the gigantic DJ booth with 24 large speakers stacked up in front of the venue’s entrance, where he played a different genre each hour. He DJed over 10 hours total during the two-day period.
The local audience knows enough about anime to rival even Japanese anime fans, and they gave a big cheer at each of the song changes fired off in rapid succession by DJ Kazu. You would almost think you were in Japan to hear the huge chorus of voices singing in Japanese during “Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~ (10 Years After Ver.)” by Meiko Honma (Ai Kayano), Naruko Anjo (Haruka Tomatsu), and Chiriko Tsurumi (Saori Hayami), which DJ Kazu put on as an encore on the evening of the 8th, the last day. Indonesians are still posting one enthusiastic message after another on DJ Kazu’s Facebook and Twitter.
