Shota Shimizu
Entranced by soul music since he was in elementary school, he started to pursue singing as more than a hobby. Now at 18 (in 2007), still passionate about music, he writes his own lyrics and music, even arranging songs easily. He’s a gifted singer/songwriter. Sometimes powerfully and sometimes softly, with rich emotion he goes from singing to rapping easily. He’s a rare multi-talent for Japan.
Charging ahead of his real debut, in the summer of 2007, he made a guest appearance on Douji-T’s “One Love” which put him on the map and made him a fan base. Following that, he was put on the Japanese Celine Dion Tribute Album “Tribute To Celine Dion” which all the best singers in Japan were waiting in line for. He gave an enthusiastic performance with Kato Miriya on “I’m Your Angel.” The song, which was originally sung by Celine Dion and R. Kelly, was given an original twist to it which was very un-Japanese because of its overwhelming soulfulness. It was an extremely impressive display of singing ability.
In the fall of 2007, praise as well as expectations ran high for this guy as he finally rose in the ranks of the big time recording industry. Certainly, saying that he’s a one in a million soul singer, wouldn’t be saying enough.
February 2008, he made his major debut from Sony Music Records.
