WASABI

2011/01/1

The sounds of “Tsugaru shamisen”, “shakuhachi”, “sou”, and drums fill the air. Not only is this a stereotypically elegant and refined sound, even to the Japanese, but also a dynamic groovy sound manifested by the harmony of various tones. The pure Japanese instrumental group “WASABI” is a project initiated by Ryoichiro Yoshida, the elder brother of the Yoshida brothers.
Although, all instruments are considered Japanese instruments, we rarely hear these instruments played together for drums and Tsugaru shamisen are mostly played for folk music, and sou and shakuhachi for “sankyoku”. Collaboration of Tsugaru shamisen and sou is especially rare. They are a force to be reckoned with in the Japanese music scene.
