Ayumi Hamasaki’s First Single in Three Years, World’s First Work Produced by DJ Hello Kitty
Ayumi Hamasaki will release her first single in about three years, “Feel the Love / Merry-go-round” on December 25.
This is Hamasaki’s first release in about three years, since the September 2010 release of “L.” In April, she celebrated the fifteen-year anniversary of her debut, and she has finished a hugely popular nationwide arena tour, attended by about 220,000 people. Her long-awaited single is a double A-side single featuring two brand-new songs. Furthermore, “DJ Hello Kitty” is the sound producer of the new song, “Feel the love.” This is, of course, the world’s first work ever produced by DJ Hello Kitty.
“Feel the love” is a uplifting tune with a catchy melody composed by Tetsuya Komuro and the sound is that of the world-wide phenomena of EDM (Electric Dance Music), which is rocking the global music scene. Preceding the release of the single, a short version of the song has been uploaded.
The other song, “Merry-go-round,” was produced by m-flo. The prime dance-floor track was created by ☆Taku, and the song features an easy-going melody as well as a rap by VERBAL. It is a track that draws out all of Hamasaki’s new charm. This is, of course, the first-ever collaboration between m-flo and Ayumi Hamasaki.
The songs were mixed by Jacen Joshua, an engineer who has worked with many top artists’ hit songs, like those of Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Miley Cyrus. The mastering will be done by an up-and-coming New York sound engineer, David Kutch, giving the songs a completely uncompromising, genuine sound. This is a work that can show people a different side of Ayumi Hamasaki.
Regardless of what artists or producers she works with, Hamasaki’s overwhelming vocals and words can be instantaneously recognized as an “Ayu sound,” the strength of which can be felt in these two songs.
